ARTIST BIO

Born in Los Angeles, California, Lucia was exposed to the art world through the influence of her father who is a graphic designer and painter. After beginning her college education as an Art History major, she eventually earned her BFA in painting and drawing from the School of Art at California State University Long Beach in 2012.  After landing a job as a teacher for a kid’s art academy, Lucia decided to dive into a career as a secondary school art teacher, and is currently working on her teaching credential.

Inspired by the patterns occurring in nature and motifs of ancient symbolism gleaned from books, art, and architecture, her process employs various tools and techniques that allows for the buildup of layers of paint that are scraped or scratched away revealing colors and patterns underneath. Aside from painting, Lucia’s artworks include collage and assemblage, utilizing found or otherwise discarded objects that take on a new life as objects of art.

her art aspires to create moments in which the viewer experiences even the smallest shift in reality, perhaps a split second of bliss or intrigue.

“I see artistic expression as a movement of inner consciousness, beliefs, fluctuating emotions and desires, through the threshold of the inner world to the outer world. Creating art allows me to transport my personal reality from the ethereal to the material by striving to break down the complexities of life into the basic components of fear, love, and discovery.”
